Winter....

In our area, winter activities center around enjoying the abundant snowfall and the mountains: opportunities for snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, ice climbing, and, of course, skiing – both downhill and cross-country – abound. Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak, is a magnet for all who love the outdoors, and the Smugglers Notch Area offers some of the finest skiing and boarding in the Northeast.

Off the slopes, there's always something fun to do: the Chamber of Commerce sponsors a Heritage Winterfest the last weekend of January each year, in conjunction with the Smugglers' Notch Primitive Biathlon; area nature centers conduct animal tracking, full moon snowshoe, and owl hooting treks; sleigh rides are available from local businesses; and winter's bright, cold skies provide the year's most brilliant star gazing.

The holidays are a special time here, with villages decked out in lights and greens, exuding good cheer and historic New England charm. Inns and resorts join their communities in hosting special seasonal events, from chorales to tree festivals, and provide friendly, relaxed hospitality and personal guidance to the best the area has to offer. Visitors report again and again they've enjoyed the vacation of their dreams, and many build family traditions around their annual visits here. The Smugglers' Notch Area makes Winter fun!
